CNN recently broke a staggering story: US authorities have uncovered an Iranian plot to assassinate former President Donald Trump. This intelligence led the Secret Service to ramp up security around Trump, highlighting the serious threats he continues to face even after leaving office.

According to multiple sources briefed on the matter, the Secret Service received this critical intel from a human source in recent weeks. Despite the increased threat, there’s no indication that Thomas Matthew Crooks, the shooter who attempted to assassinate Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, had any connection to the Iranian plot.

A US national security official told CNN,

Secret Service learned of the increased threat from this threat stream. NSC directly contacted USSS at a senior level to be absolutely sure they continued to track the latest reporting. USSS shared this information with the detail lead, and the Trump campaign was made aware of an evolving threat. In response to the increased threat, Secret Service surged resources and assets for the protection of former President Trump. All of this was in advance of Saturday.”

The campaign has remained tight-lipped about the specifics, stating,

“We do not comment on President Trump’s security detail. All questions should be directed to The United States Secret Service.”

However, the enhanced security measures were unmistakable at recent events.

In a chilling sequence of events, an assassin managed to gain access to a rooftop near the rally site and fired shots that injured Trump and killed one audience member. This incident has raised serious questions about the security protocols at the event and how such a lapse could occur despite prior warnings.

“The Secret Service and other agencies are constantly receiving new potential threat information and taking action to adjust resources, as needed,” said Anthony Guglielmi, a Secret Service spokesman.

Iran’s Permanent Mission to the UN denied any involvement in an assassination plot, labeling the accusations as “unsubstantiated and malicious.” They reiterated their stance that Trump should be prosecuted for ordering the assassination of General Qasem Soleimani in 2020, claiming to seek justice through legal means.

CNN’s report also noted the persistent threats against former Trump officials, with a significant uptick in hostile messaging from Iranian accounts and state-backed media. Former Trump national security officials, including John Bolton and Mike Pompeo, have had heightened security due to these threats.

This unfolding story underscores the ongoing security challenges and geopolitical tensions surrounding Trump, proving that even out of office, he remains a significant figure on the global stage.
