TLDR: Hell no!
Every other day, some liberal who refuses to call Twitter “X” rants about how it’s now swamped with right-wing extremists. They whine about their feeds being overrun with conservative views and hate speech. According to them, Elon has ruined their safe space.
But is X really overrun with right-wing users? Let’s dive into the numbers.
According to a study by Hootsuite, one of the largest social media management companies:
26% of left-leaning Americans use X. Compare that to 20% of those who lean to the right. This is one of the larger gaps in use among political affiliations of all the social platforms (except Instagram).
So why are liberals crying?
Simple: the algorithm. X’s algorithm feeds you what you interact with the most. Engage with right-wing accounts? Your feed will be full of them. Love gaming? Your feed will be all about games. A foodie? Your feed will overflow with culinary delights.
And let’s be clear: Logical Piranha, with our libertarian leanings, interacts a lot with the liberal hive mind. Whether it’s the lack of logic from the left or their pure hatred, we call them out regularly. Don’t get hung up on my bias—I spar with the right too. My feed? Predominantly liberal tweets with the occasional libertarian post. Check out the video below for a snapshot of my timeline.
If your feed feels like it’s feeding you something you don’t want, stop eating it. It’ll take time, but start interacting with accounts you enjoy. Otherwise, you’re just torturing yourself.
Welcome to X, where the algorithm gives you exactly what you ask for.
