If you haven’t heard, you must be living under a rock. The left is absolutely losing it over the SCOTUS ruling that a president has immunity from criminal charges when conducting official duties.

So, what’s the deal? Can the president launch a drone strike to take out a political opponent? Does this give the office of president unlimited power to do whatever he wants without any accountability?

Of course not. The only ones who want you to believe that are those trying to manipulate you. THEY don’t even believe it. Our founders hinted at presidential immunity but also ensured there were plenty of checks and balances. This means that while the president might not be charged with murder if his executive order to lower fuel consumption by limiting drilling caused a fuel shortage leading to a woman running out of gas and getting run over by a semi full of fuel (as ironic as that is), he would not be held liable and is immune to any charges. However, if a president decided he did not like a certain media representative, he could not order the military to assassinate them.

First, that would not fall under his official duties. Second, I’d hope the military would not comply with such an order. While the US military has done some crazy things, this seems over the top. And third, even if he did such a thing and the military complied, it would be ruled that it was not done in his official capacity as POTUS. He and all involved would be held accountable.

Here are my thoughts on the whole thing. I disagree with the ruling. I do not believe a president or any official should have immunity from criminal charges regardless of duty. That being said, in some instances, they now do. But it’s not the kingmaker that it’s being disguised as by the left. Our system of government is a work of art. Its authors ensured that for every possible break in the system, there is something to correct it. While it is not perfect and some things slip through the cracks, it’s much better than any other system in the world.

What’s more worrying is how our officials are exaggerating this as some kind of special new power that gives a president unlimited power. Their fearmongering is absolutely disgusting and completely misleading. It’s manipulative and it’s intentional. And they are doing it because it works. They want you afraid. They want you to believe that it’s bigger than it really is so that you will do what they ask. And what do they ask? Vote blue. Here’s the kicker: Trump had this immunity all along. He believed he had it. He knew he had it. Why didn’t he end the world? Why didn’t the sky fall?
